Little SODS
Little SODS
Who are Little SODS?
We are SODS’ junior group. We are open to young people between 8 and 18.
What do you do?
We provide the opportunity for performing drama and learning theatre skills in an encouraging and positive environment.
We meet weekly in Stowmarket during term time. A typical session includes a warm-up, drama exercises, games, movement, singing, sketches and work on pieces for performance. In the past year we have also
•performed four short plays
•put on several song and dance numbers
•studied improvisation, with several sketches at our last end of term show improvised on the spot
•studied and practised stage combat (very popular, that one)
•learnt about characterisation
•put on a full-scale musical. We performed the Rocky Monster Show to packed-out houses over two nights. With full staging, costumes, lighting and a band, it was truly a show to remember!
We tailor some of our activities to age, and support older members in submitting their own ideas for drama and development. We actively encourage our members to stay in touch as they get older – several of the current SODS membership were Little SODS once!
What Productions Do You Do?
We aim to put on a small show at Christmas to friends and relatives, then more ambitious productions in the summer.
Members also get the chance to audition for full SODS productions when there are suitable parts.
Who runs the group?
We have at least four leaders at each session to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need to improve their skills. As a group we adhere to the NODA Model Child Protection Policy. All leaders are members of SODS themselves, are CRB checked and are expected to obtain chaperones’ licences when they start work.
Can I join?
The maximum group size is 40 members, and there is currently a (shortish) waiting list. If you’d like to join us, please phone Lynda Phillips 01449 777050
